国外大学有陶艺课吗？
英国的大学里，有一门专门的课程叫做“The Art of Pottery”. 授课老师叫Philipa Bahl，是皇家艺术学院（Royal College of Art）的陶瓷系教授。她在自己的个人网站上这样介绍这门课程——“通过使用由高级工程师设计的独特设备，我们将学习如何制作出精美的雕塑和器皿。课程包括陶瓷基础理论、材料特性、烧制过程以及手工工具和使用方法等基础知识。在了解理论知识后，学生可在导师一对一的指导下设计个人作品并制作完成。”[1]
在这堂课中，学生们能够学到所有的基础知识和技能，从制泥、塑形、装饰到烧制。虽然这门课不要求学生在学期结束时做出复杂的艺术品，但每个学生都会得到导师的一对一指导，帮助完成从构思到成品的过程。 这堂课的招生名额比较少，只有三个中国学生入选，所以能进入这个课程的学习可以说是非常幸运的。
除了皇家艺术学院以外，在英国还有一些大学也开设了类似的课程，比如伯恩茅斯大学（Bournemouth University）就开设了“4D Design for Ceramic Art and Craft”。这是一门实践性很强的课程，会教给学生如何运用CAD/CAM等技术进行设计和制作。
美国也有很多的大学开设有陶瓷相关的课程。比如纽约大学的“Ceramics： History & Production”。这门课程的简介中写道——This course will cover the history of ceramic art from its beginnings to present times， in addition to covering all aspects of ceramics production including glazes， clays， firings， decoration， and kiln construction. 还有宾夕法尼亚大学的“Ceramics： Materials and Techniques”。简介写道——This course is designed to give students a working knowledge of materials used in ceramics， their properties and how they can be exploited to make both functional and decorative objects. The course also covers technical aspects of sculpture such as casting， form， balance and stability．
