Cypriot visas are divided into 3 main categories: D: Permanent Residence. This is a visa for those who wish to settle permanently in Cyprus (with some conditions) and obtain Cypriot citizenship at some point of time through the permanent residence procedure E-2: Investment Visa, this was introduced with Law No.147(I)/2014 The most popular category is that of the investor which concerns investors from third countries as well as European citizens investing more than €2m in an approved project or company.
The applicant must invest such sum, in a bank account opened under his /her name in one of the credit institutions operating in Cyprus according to the provisions laid down by the Central Bank of Cyprus and maintain it unchanged for two years after their investment has been made; Or if they have acquired securities listed on licensed Cyprus stock exchange, then either sell them off within 9 months from purchasing them OR keep them unlisted for up to three years since purchase period. In both cases, these funds should be held in a Cypriot bank account until the end of the validity of this type of visa; And/or contribute a non-refundable contribution towards research activities, carried out directly or indirectly, by public or private research centres or organizations established in Cyprus, provided there exist scientific and technical justification of its objectives and financial plans for implementation, amounting to at least €50,000 per year. There exists also another kind of Investor’s residency called ‘Family members' Investor Residency Program, where only family members get legal residency but not the investor himself/ herself. However, once the sponsor(the Investor) becomes naturalized he may apply for his dependent children over 18 to become legal residents themselves, and the spouse to receive Cypriot Citizenship.
